Sheldon C. Petersen

CEO - National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corp.

Sheldon C. Petersen became CEO of CFC in 1995. Petersen began his career in rural electrification in 1976 with an Iowa co-op. In 1980, he was tapped to serve as general manager for an electric co-op in Wisconsin.

Petersen joined CFC in 1983 as an area representative. In 1990, he held director roles and served as assistant to the governor and acting administrative officer.

He also was instrumental in the governance of CFC affiliates, the Rural Telephone Finance Cooperative and the National Cooperative Services Corporation.

Petersen received his bachelor’s in marketing from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975.
