Jay Caspary

Jay Caspary has close to 40 years of experience working in transmission planning, electric and gas resource planning, and regulatory services and pricing. In his current role as the Director of R&D and Special Studies at Southwest Power Pool, he has been instrumental in developing effective transmission expansion plans for SPP, actively engaging in collaborative efforts with neighboring utilities, as well as neighboring systems in ERCOT and WECC. In 2012, Jay spent a year away from his 17-year tenure at SPP to serve as a Senior Policy Advisor to the US Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability. Prior to his role at SPP, he spent close to 20 years at Illinois Power (now Ameren), serving as the director of system planning, pricing, and customer choice. Jay holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.
