Free and open to the public

The Friday Workshops provide a unique opportunity for deeper discussions of select topics and are free and open to the public. Below is a tentative list of discussion topics that will be fleshed out more thoroughly by dedicated student teams. Watch this space for more information as it becomes available.

Friday Content

Food, Water & Energy Nexus
Explore the interaction between agriculture, transportation, water use, and energy and provide insightful observations about this critical and interwoven nexus.

Grid 101
Debunk misconceptions regarding the complexity of grid infrastructure in order to transition into a relevant and perceptive discussion of the associated policy issues.

Energy Megaprojects: Scale and Complexity
What characterizes the success of a large-scale energy project?  What makes energy project management different from any other kind of project?  How does a 3MW solar farm differ from the Hoover Dam?

Building Energy Management Systems
Discuss the technological advancements in managing the energy services of commercial buildings, the role of retrofit technologies, and the potential for energy use reduction.

Start-up Clinic
A new addition to the MIT Energy Conference, the Start-Up Clinic aims to provide insight for people with technical backgrounds as to the potential of technology transfer, various financing options, and the role of market mechanisms for energy technologies.  Success stories, jargon-free presentations, and round table discussions will enable an environment for “techies” to discover the world of start-ups. Space is limited and registration is required: REGISTER HERE
